MMS compatible messages are sent
as XHTML/WAP Push. It concerns technically using
the same delivery as with MMS. MMS differs from
MMS compatible messages, as the Download of the
multimedia contant (e.g. a picture) is paid by
the transmitter.
The MMS compatible messages of @SMS its load by
the receiver with GPRS. The GPRS fees lie
however many lower than the prices of a MMS or
even a SMS. With Swisscom a picture with 10 KB
(thus the size of a GIF file, which fits on a
mobile phone display) costs 10 Swiss Fanc cents
(about 6 Euro Cents). A MMS against it 50 Swiss
Fanc cents .
Another difference is the way, the messages are
received by the receiver telephone. Differently
than MMS a request is sent in form of a SMS,
which indicate that a downloading of a
picture is needed. Not all mobile phones store
the downloaded pictures, where MMS are stored.
